What is Microsoft Intune?

Stadia is a Microsoft Gold Cloud Platform Partner. So we manage the Microsoft Endpoint environments for many of our customers. It’s a technology that is scary to some, but the benefits are huge.

Microsoft Intune (formerly known as Microsoft Endpoint Manager) can appear confusing and a tad overwhelming to set up, with a host of apps, profiles, and security options to consider. If you already have Microsoft 365, you’ll have an Endpoint license, without paying any extra. So it’s a service that’s well worth exploring for your business, no matter the size.

Here, we review Microsoft Intune in more detail and look at how it could support your business.

What is Microsoft Intune?

Intune is a cloud-based and on-premises solution that provides everything needed to manage and monitor all the devices in a business.

It enables employees of a company to use any device (whether personal or corporate), and still have access to the relevant company data and information to do their work. From an organisational perspective, Intune also helps companies ensure that their data is secure, protected and easily managed remotely across devices.

“Microsoft Endpoint Manager helps deliver the modern workplace and modern management to keep your data secure, in the cloud and on-premises.”  Microsoft.com

Many workers were forced to work from home during the global Covid-19 pandemic, and the future looks set to feature much more hybrid ways of working. Staff are increasingly splitting their time between the office and home. According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), ‘ The proportion of homeworkers planning to work mostly from home rose 12 percentage points between April 2021 and February 2022.”

Ever-increasing amounts of employees now use personal devices for work, and utilise mobile apps for work-related activity. This means that secure systems for remote work are more important than ever.

What does Microsoft Intune do?

“Endpoint Manager meets organisations where they are in their cloud journey. Companies can secure, deploy, and manage all users, apps, and endpoint devices without disrupting existing processes.” Microsoft.com

Intune essentially allows anyone to pick up a laptop from anywhere in the world, follow a simple set of instructions and within a couple of minutes, start deploying the right applications. So at the end, they are left with a corporate build that’s been approved by the company. It will feature all the necessary security systems and be locked down, so the individual can’t install anything unwanted.

So Intune allows for a fully corporate build – but made easy. This is a powerful modern management tool, offering a slick user-experience.
