AWS Migrations

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has helped thousands of organisations migrate to the cloud, which generates substantial IT and business benefits, including lower costs, increased agility, greater productivity, and the ability to innovate more quickly.

Stadia Consulting Group, an AWS partner, helps businesses both large and small assess their cloud readiness, identify gaps, and receive an action plan to help close those gaps and propel their cloud journey forward. For more information on Stadia’s migration services, contact us by clicking here.

Could a migration to AWS help your business?

Here are just some of the potential benefits of an AWS migration:

01

Saving Money

  • Pay Only for What You Use: With AWS, you don’t have to buy a bunch of expensive hardware. You just pay for the resources you use, which can save a ton of money.

  • Cost Management: AWS has tools to help you keep an eye on your spending and find ways to save even more.

02

Scalability and Flexibility

  • Automatic Scaling: AWS can automatically adjust resources based on your needs, so you’re not paying for unused capacity.

  • Global Presence: AWS has regions all over the world, which helps ensure your applications run smoothly no matter where your users are. Take a look at the AWS regions here.

03

Security and Compliance

  • Top-Notch Security: AWS offers strong security features, like encryption and access controls, to keep your data safe.

  • Compliance Made Easier: AWS meets a lot of global standards and regulations, which can help your business stay compliant. You can find details of the AWS Compliance programs here.

04

Environmentally Conscious

  • Sustainability Efforts: AWS is working towards running on 100% renewable energy, which helps reduce your company’s carbon footprint.

Our approach to AWS Migrations.

Migrating to AWS can be streamlined with a professional yet straightforward approach. The 7 Rs are central to our approach to migration. You can read more about the 7 Rs here.

Meanwhile, here is a high-level outline of how we at Stadia approach AWS migrations:

Plan:

  • Assess: Evaluate current infrastructure, applications, and dependencies. (You can read about the AWS Assessment tool here and in the article directly beneath this one).
  • Objectives: Define goals such as cost reduction, performance improvement, and scalability.

Prepare:

  • Training: Upskill your team on AWS services.
  • Proof of Concept: Test migration on a small scale to identify potential issues.

Migrate:

Optimise:

  • Review: Post-migration, review performance, and costs.
  • Enhance: Implement best practices using the AWS Well-Architected Framework to optimise and secure your environment.
  • Automate: Refactoring to serverless architecture can save costs.

Manage:

Obviously, there is a lot more underlying detail to these steps, but this gives an idea of how we approach AWS migrations.

It would be great to chat with you about how an AWS migration could benefit your company, contact us.

Tailored Support With Microsoft Teams

You have probably heard of Microsoft Teams. In fact, it’s very likely you’re using it on a regular basis in your business. At Stadia, we offer bespoke support with Teams security and beyond – to help you to harness the full capabilities of the platform.

Over a quarter of a billion people use Microsoft Teams now, making it the most popular business communication service in the world.

According to Microsoft:

“Microsoft Teams is a collaboration app that helps members of an organization to use any device to stay organized and have conversations. You can use Microsoft Teams to have immediate conversations with members of your staff or guests outside your organization. You can also make phone calls, host meetings, and share files.”

Teams is the number one corporate solution for easy collaboration and teamwork in remote working scenarios. And of course, this has never been more important. Teams is a game-changing platform in its ability to connect your work force when they are in the office and beyond.

Share, collaborate and work in real-time, with Microsoft Teams.

So what else is there to say about Microsoft Teams?

Teams is just Teams. Right?

It just works. Out of the box, doesn’t it?

It’s just, good to go?

Click it, call up, or make a video call, right?

Well… yes.

But.

There’s a LOT more on offer. The ‘straight out-the-box’ solution, while a good one, doesn’t necessarily provide the fullest experience. Teams is a powerful platform with the full force of M365 integration behind it, and many businesses are not harnessing its full benefits.

Not even close.

When it comes to security in particular, there are multiple capabilities you could be using to secure Teams, lock it down and control how your users work with it. This should all be undertaken in line with your business requirements and security standards.

That’s where we come in.

It’s time to think outside the box – and unlock the Microsoft Teams security benefits you might not have heard of. But that you might really need.

Microsoft Teams Security Capabilities

Teams offers a multitude of configurable security settings and policies, but largely, people don’t know they exist.

Did you know that you can benefit from some of the below Teams security capabilities and more?

  • Safe Attachments: This is a feature designed to enhance user security by checking for, and detecting, malicious attachments. As company administrator, you can turn this on and adapt corresponding policies to ensure your end users don’t receive/act upon any malicious attachments.
  • Safe Links: Safe links is a feature which will scan URLs to help protect your business from malicious links used in phishing and other attacks. In a Teams setting, this will provide protection for links used in conversations, groups chats and channels.
  • Microsoft Defender for Office 365: Defender is available for Microsoft Teams. It helps you to determine if content is malicious and block if necessary.
  • Secure Score: Secure Score will measure the effectiveness of an organisation’s security and it can be found at the Microsoft 365 security center. A higher number will tell you that increased action needs to be taken. As administrator, it’s important to monitor your security performance on this platform on a regular basis and act accordingly.
  • Information Barriers: You can use these barriers to perform actions like keeping people or groups from communicating with one another (for example – when there is no business need for them to do so).

On a day-to-day basis, this also means you can make use of other, more granular security settings to protect your business on Teams:

  • Protected Meeting Links: With an unprotected invite link, anyone who gets hold of it can access your meeting. With enhanced security, you can set it so that only people who have been directly sent the link can join. Alternatively, anyone who has the link but is not directly invited can be held in the lobby and only granted access by the meeting owner. Or perhaps you’d like to set it up so that only internal people can join. These are all options well worth exploring.
  • Secure File Transfer: You can also set Teams up to only allow a transfer of files if all members of a call are internal.

We could go on…

Harness the full security capabilities of Microsoft Teams with Stadia

At Stadia, we help businesses who need to comply with certain CIS standards of security. We work with organisations at whatever stage they are at with their Microsoft Teams security set-up.

Just getting started? Need support with Teams Security?
Setting up new environments

For a brand new company, if you’re looking to set up Microsoft 365 and unlock the full benefits that come with it (Teams included), we can help.

We’ll work through your requirements with you and make recommendations on which licenses you should have, which applications and which settings to make it secure and still able to deliver what you need it to.

Got an existing environment that needs updating?
Managing deployment to existing environments

Perhaps you’ve had a penetration test and now have reams of issues to resolve. Perhaps many of the security updates relate to Microsoft Teams?

We know this needs to be done right within a live environment.

You can’t break anything! You can’t interrupt the end-user workflow. You can’t disrupt meetings.

We will undertake a detailed assessment of your requirements and work closely with you to ensure nothing gets broken along the way.

We’ll keep your own change management process at front of mind too, ensuring we’re clear on what we can do and cannot and when we can and cannot make updates.

We understand there might only be small windows of opportunity, and we’ll work around your business and your team to make sure the process is a smooth one.

Maybe it’s something that’s been discussed and then shelved.

Are you on edge about the jump from internally managed IT to a cloud-based alternative?

Multi-Factor Authentications

Following the impact of the global pandemic, more people than ever are working from home. This presents new security threats to the work environments of many businesses, something that multi-factor authentication (MFA) can help to counteract.

MFA is often not optimised to its fullest though, with many businesses unaware of the breadth of security features on offer.

We can help.

As part of our MFA and broader Microsoft Azure bespoke services, we’ll perform an initial assessment of your security requirements, design and configure an MFA solution and implement it without any disruption to your team.

Call us today to discuss your MFA requirements.

So what is MFA and why do you need it?

MFA essentially asks a user to prove that they are who they say they are. When trying to log-in, a user must provide two or more forms of verification to access certain services, accounts or platforms.

There are different types of authentication on offer and you can select the best mix to suit your business needs (also taking into account the end-user experience). You can read more about MFA on our blog.

MFA has a hugely positive impact on safety, with estimates that there can be up to a 99% reduction in the chances of an account being compromised when multi-factor authentication is employed.

Ensuring you have multi-factor authentication set up for your business is absolutely essential in order to protect your systems. It can be simple, cost-effective and extremely beneficial if set-up in the right way.

Let’s take a look at why multi-factor authentication is more important than ever.

Remote Working and the Increased Importance of Multi-Factor Authentication

While some companies have shifted back to fully office based working requirements post pandemic, many have either opted for a fully remote set-up, or more of a hybrid approach.

While this brings about positives for employees in terms of flexibility and freedom of where to work, this can also have a significantly detrimental impact on the security of the work environment of a business (both on and off-line).

An on-site work environment is much easier to control. Everything is operated from the physical office space and on a managed network, which the IT department oversees.

Physical presence in the office is also easy to monitor and more often than not, a stranger on site would be recognised, or other on-site security procedures would alert management to intruders.

With remote work, the situation is a little different. Cyberthreats are far more common when a worker is remote, because they may be working outside the organisation’s network.

Remote work also throws up numerous other threats:

  • The IT team cannot necessarily control whether staff work from home, or use less secure public networks elsewhere.
  • Nor can they control who comes into a staff member’s house!
  • Further to this, there’s no way to ensure that a staff member doesn’t work from their own personal device, which doesn’t have the necessary company security systems in place.

The threat is high and the stakes higher. It’s more important than ever to have a secure user verification process.

Is your MFA solution really as water-tight as you think?

Multi-factor authentication is easily and cheaply (if not freely, depending on your licenses) available through Microsoft and the other major cloud providers.

But in order to unlock its full capabilities, you might need some extra support.

There are numerous ways of setting MFA up, ranging from least to most secure. You can select from a host of different authentication factors to ask for.

There’s also user convenience that you need to keep in mind (which might present conflicting demands to security requirements!).

With MFA, you can set up a username and password requirement and also ask for confirmation on the relevant MFA app – and people can log in.

But did you know that within Microsoft Azure, there’s also an additional layer of security available that’s very closely related to MFA?

Have you heard about Conditional Access?

No? Well, with Conditional Access, you can enhance log-in security even further and without inconveniencing users, by pre-programming certain access requirements:

  • You could use conditional access to only allow log-ins from certain countries (and ban others)
  • You can set up a condition so that log-in is only permitted via registered corporate devices
  • You can also limit log-ins to a specified IP address or range

There are many other access requirements you can explore.

Don’t just stop at MFA.

If you haven’t explored integrated use of MFA and Conditional Access, give us a call.

Harness the full Security Capabilities of Multi-Factor Authentication with Stadia

We’ve helped many businesses to set up, or enhance their use of multi-factor authentication. It’s part of a broad range of tailored services we offer to help organisations adapt to constantly changing security threats.

  • We’ll perform an initial assessment of your requirements.
  • Design and configure an MFA solution.
  • Implement it without any disruption to your team.
  • We’ll also integrate Conditional Access as required.

We can support with as much or as little as you need.
So how do we help?

Getting started with MFA/Conditional Access?

If you’re completely new to Microsoft Azure, multi-factor-authentication, or Conditional Access, we can help.

We’ll work through your requirements with you and make recommendations on which you should opt for, the relevant settings, and a plan to implement.

Already have an existing Azure presence?

If you’ve already got a presence in Azure, but feel you’re doing the very minimum in terms of your security procedures, we can help. We’ll support you to incorporate MFA and Conditional Access and improve your ability to respond to threats.

We’ll undertake a detailed assessment of your requirements and work closely with you so there is no impact on daily operations as we implement changes.

Need an upgrade?

Maybe you’re working with an outdated provider and still reliant on clunky hardware fobs for employees to log-in. If you’re at the end of a multi-year agreement and it’s time to move to a modern, smart-phone based verification solution, then we can support you with the change.

Whatever your situation, we can help. We’ll design and implement an MFA solution to meet your security requirements without inconveniencing your users.

ORIIUM SaaS: Protect Your Data Today

ORIIUM SaaS is a cloud-based complete data protection platform. It keeps company data secure by adhering to proven standards that protect data privacy and safeguard it from external threats.

Stadia is a proud ORIIUM partner, helping customers set up and integrate this important platform into their day-to-day operations. ORIIUM is in fact, the protection platform we utilise to back up our data at Stadia, making us well placed to recommend it to our customers. We are consistently impressed with the efficiency of the platform and the additional security benefits it provides.

If you’d like to protect, store and recover your data on demand with ORIIUM – no matter where you are or where you’d like to recover to – give us a call today.

Call us today

Do you think your data is safe?

Data protection is vital for any business, with the threat of data breaches higher than ever.

Threats from hackers are more advanced and a steep rise in remote working has led to increased difficulties for businesses trying to protect against data intrusions and attacks.

If your data and company assets aren’t secure, you leave yourself open to a host of issues for your business, ranging from minor irritations up to full-blown disasters. Some of these disasters are simply not recoverable from.

Hackers could access sensitive or personal data and release it publicly, or they could interrupt or even destroy your customer database.

You might think your systems are secure. But have you really done the homework?

Did you know, for example, that the retention policy at Microsoft will only hold data for 30 days after a user has deleted it (active deletion) or for 180 days after a subscription ends (passive deletion)?

You’ve got no option to access it after that point. That’s it. Gone.

Relying on a provider’s default data retention protection is a risky business. It’s not advisable to lean solely on platforms such as Exchange, Teams, Sharepoint and OneDrive to secure and store your data. And it’s a similar situation with Microsoft’s competitor platforms, such as Google Workspace.

ORIIUM: Secure your data with the market-leader

If you’re seeking a data protection platform that provides complete protection and enables rapid recovery or restoration of lost or deleted data, then ORIIUM is a great place to look.

ORIIUM delivers market-leading backup (BaaS) and disaster recovery (DRaaS) services to a host of major clients, such as Prudential and the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Backup as a Service (BaaS):
  • BaaS is a managed service for customers with data across multiple platforms. ORIIUM’s secure cloud backup provides unparalleled support for on-premise, hybrid-cloud and SaaS platforms. Data is protected at all times and can be recovered speedily on demand.

  • M365 user? If you opt for the M365 protection option, you’ll also unlock complete control of your data retention duration, negating some of the issues we outlined earlier. ORIIUM’s M365 backup and recovery solution extends data protection outside of M365 to any cloud storage target of your choosing, providing additional layers of security.

Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS)
  • This ORIIUM service mitigates the risk of ransomware attacks. Ransomware is a threat that attacks both production data sets and backup data, but ORIIUM will employ ransomware protection at multiple levels to ward off the threat.
  • Ransomware attacks are now the primary reason for defining and implementing a Disaster Recovery Plan. ORIIUM SaaS will aid with this, by providing point-in-time backup and recovery, allowing IT teams to view and recover all or key parts of the data prior to an infection point.

Are you protected against ransomware attacks? Contact Stadia to discuss protection and recovery methods.

So, what’s stopping you?

Perhaps you feel you have insufficient IT resources internally to deploy and manage ORIIUM?

Not to worry. With the ORIIUM managed service, your data is monitored 24/7/365 by a team of experts, to ensure all backup jobs complete successfully. This will remove any dependencies and resource requirements from your internal IT team.

Concerned about cost-effectiveness?

The service is entirely configurable so you can select from just BaaS or DRaaS or both service options depending on your requirements. Using both BaaS and DRaaS service options can provide a cost-effective solution that delivers both data recovery and business operation continuity.

There’s also a choice of whether you opt for a managed or unmanaged service and a range of payment options too, based on consumption. So you really can tailor the service and price point to work for your business.

Give us a call to find a price point that works for you.

Senior management doesn’t see the need for DR (DRaaS) on top of BaaS?

It’s difficult to comprehend the importance of the data in your business until it’s gone. This is a very real threat and not one that should be underestimated or downplayed.
